Author Details...
Andrew Salter was a psychologist and therapist of great insight who in defining a way to quickly reconstruct personality with the conditioned reflex - or reinforcing desired responses to overcome undesirable ones - began what is known as Behavior Therapy. Conditioned reflex Therapy is widely recognized as the first book on what is now known as Assertive Training. Salter’s writings influenced a whole era of behavior therapists. With great insight, his description of the inhibitory and excitatory personalities was many decades ahead of the behavior therapy movement in general and assertive training in particular. His book is still recommended reading for people wanting to become more assertive.

"Incompetence has one other advantage. Not only does it reduce what others expect and demand of you, it reduces what you expect or even hope for yourself. When you set out to fail, one thing is certain - you can't be disappointed. As the old saying goes, you can't fall out of bed when you sleep on the floor."
